Michael Sarnoski’s A Quiet Place Spinoff Will Be Called Day One

Today was Paramount’s turn to present its upcoming film slate at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. And with a jam-packed sizzle reel, the studio teased big things ahead for one of its most promising new franchises. According to The Wrap, Paramount has confirmed that its upcoming A Quiet Place spinoff is titled A Quiet Place: Day One.

As the name implies, Day One takes place before the first two A Quiet Place films and will shed fresh light on Earth’s invasion by aliens who hunt by sound and decimate human civilization in a matter of months. Viewers previously got a glimpse of this crisis in A Quiet Place Part II’s opening flashback scene. However, the prequel will likely focus on a new group of survivors rather than the Abbott family led by Emily Blunt’s Evelyn.

Michael Sarnoski signed on to direct the new spinoff in January after wowing audiences with his debut feature, Pig. He replaced Jeff Nichols, who was attached to the project for almost a year before leaving the film last fall. Sarnoski’s pitch was described as being “different” from what director and star John Krasinski had done with A Quiet Place and its sequel. But it matched up with the overall tone of the franchise.

Paramount didn’t share any Day One casting announcements during its CinemaCon presentation. Regardless, this isn’t the only new Quiet Place installment currently in the works. Krasinski is also developing A Quiet Place Part III, which will continue the Abbott family’s story in the present day.

A Quiet Place: Day One will hit theaters on September 22, 2023.
