Earlier this week, Marvel fans celebrated the 20th anniversary of Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man movie and its game-changing influence on the comic book genre as a whole. The film still holds up for a number of reasons, not the least of which is composer Danny Elfman’s musical road map for Spidey’s big-screen debut. Now, Sony Music has a special treat for listeners. The studio has just announced that Elfman’s score is about to come out on vinyl for the first time ever.
Raimi and Elfman had previously worked together on Darkman and A Simple Plan before Spider-Man came along. Before this, Elfman had already tested the superhero waters with Tim Burton’s first two Batman films. But Spider-Man arguably represents some of the best work of his career. Parts of Elfman’s score were recently heard in Spider-Man: No Way Home during scenes featuring Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. Elfman also performed selections from his Spider-Man soundtrack during his performances at Coachella last month.

Elfman went on to score Spider-Man 2 in 2004. But at some point during the making of that film, he and Raimi had a falling out, which led him to opt out of returning for Spider-Man 3. Sony ended up replacing Elfman with Christopher Young on the trilogy’s final installment. But luckily, Raimi and Elfman eventually reconciled and collaborated once again on 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful. They also re-teamed for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is now playing in theaters everywhere.
Sony’s new pressing of the soundtrack is available on three different colors: gold, silver, and black. The announcement also includes links to pre-order each of the variants on Amazon. Unfortunately, the soundtracks don’t ship until December.
