Taika Waititi Says Kevin Feige Cast [Spoiler] In Thor: Love and Thunder

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Thor: Love and Thunder! Kevin Feige cast

After the mid-credits of Thor: Love and Thunder, there’s a new god in the MCU who has deep ties to Marvel’s comic book universe. Earlier in the film, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) seemingly killed Zeus (Russell Crowe), only for Zeus to reappear in the mid-credits scene. Not only was Zeus still alive, he was eager for revenge on the Odinson. That’s why Zeus ordered his son, Hercules (Brett Goldstein), to kill Thor.

In the comics, Thor and Hercules have had a largely friendly rivalry. Both of them have also been members of the Avengers, although Thor has a much larger history with the team. Regardless, Hercules is now officially a part of the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe. And according to director Taika Waititi, it was Kevin Feige who was responsible for casting one of Ted Lasso‘s fan-favorite supporting actors in his role as the son of Zeus.

“Kevin really wanted him to do it, and yeah, Brett’s amazing. He’s great,” said Waititi while speaking with Uproxx. Waititi also admitted that he was unfamiliar with Goldstein ahead of time. But he definitely noticed that fans recognized him at the Love and Thunder premiere screening.

“It was such a cool moment in the cinema where it played, that people went nuts,” recalled Waititi. “They were so excited.”

However, Waititi noted that he is not in the loop regarding any future appearances by Goldstein’s Hercules.

“I don’t know if that’s to do with Thor, or if it’s to do with how that will develop,” related Waititi. “Because, obviously, Hercules, there’s a character from the books as well. And so, yeah, this will be interesting to see because Kevin, he’s obviously the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So I’m curious to find out myself.”

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently playing in theaters.
