The next big Stephen King adaptation isn’t hitting theaters in time for this fall’s horror programming. In fact, it isn’t hitting theaters this year at all. Deadline brings word that Warner Bros. and New Line are moving Salem’s Lot from its original September 9 release date. The film will now premiere on April 21, 2023.
Apparently, the move boils down to several post-production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also claims that cast and crew also reunited for “a handful of days” six weeks ago for additional photography. However, the news isn’t all that surprising. Fans have yet to see a single frame from the film, let alone a full-length trailer.

Salem’s Lot was the second novel that King ever published when it originally hit bookstores in 1975. The story follows Ben Mears, an author who returns to his hometown to write his next book. However, Ben soon discovers that the town’s residents are being turned into vampires. The novel has previously been adapted for television twice: once in 1979 with director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and again in 2004 with Rob Lowe starring as Ben.
Gary Dauberman, who previously wrote (or co-wrote) both of WB’s It films, is writing and directing Salem’s Lot for the studio. Lewis Pullman headlines the film as Ben, leading a supporting cast that also includes Mackenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, Alfre Woodard, and William Sadler.
