The Flash director Andy Muschietti has stated that if The Flash 2 were to be made with him directing, Ezra Miller would be brought back to play the titular character in the sequel.
Would Ezra Miller play Barry Allen in The Flash 2?
While speaking on The Playlist‘s Discourse podcast, Muschietti was asked if Miller would be replaced in a potential The Flash 2 due to their recent legal issues or if they’d return. The director said that Miller would return, as they “just excelled” at this specific version of the character.
“If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Muschietti stated in regards to Miller returning. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it.
“And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them. In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role – physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”
DC Studios’ The Flash movie is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson. It stars Ezra Miller as Flash/Barry Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, along with Keaton and Ben Affleck who will reprise their respective versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the film.
“Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past,” reads the synopsis. “But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no super heroes to turn to.”
The film is executive produced by Marianne Jenkins, with Michael Disco and Barbara Muschietti serving as producers. It is slated to arrive in theaters on June 16.
