John Wick Chapters 1-4 Collection Review: A Stylish Blu-ray Set

John Wick: Chapter 4 was released earlier this year, and following the release came a John Wick Chapters 1-4 Collection that packaged all four films into one Blu-ray set. All four films were directed by Chad Stahelski and starred Keanu Reeves as the titular John Wick, an assassin who’s forced back into action in the first film and then goes on a journey to have himself freed from the grips of the mysterious High Table in the subsequent three films.

Besides Reeves, the John Wick franchise also stars Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick. Throughout the four films, other high-profile stars have also made appearances, including Willem Dafoe, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Laurence Fishburne, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ruby Rose, Common, Saïd Taghmaoui, George Georgiu, Asia Kate Dillon, Anjelica Huston, Unity Phelan, Rina Sawayama, Donnie Yen, and Bill Skarsgård.

As far as the movies go, each of them can stand on its own as an incredible action film with some great setpieces, but as a story, the John Wick franchise becomes one of the best action series of all time. While the story is nothing to write home about, especially considering it is a fairly generic action movie narrative for the most part, the John Wick franchise shines in some of its incredible moments and fights through the use of “gun-fu,” which has become a modern staple in action films and was popularized by the likes of John Woo.

Whether it be scenes like the home invasion scene in the original John Wick, the street fight between Wick and Common’s Cassian that takes place throughout the streets of New York and into the subway in John Wick: Chapter 2, the Continental’s siege in John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, or the fight scene featuring Wick and Donnie Yen’s Caine at the Sacré-Cœur in John Wick: Chapter 4, the franchise has a ton of moments that will have you on the edge of your seat.

John Wick 1-4 Blu-ray Collection Review: A Stylish Blu-ray Collection

The packaging for the John Wick 1-4 Collection is a must-have for any John Wick fan. As seen above, the collection comes housed in a stylish box set that comes with six different art cards, all of which can be used as the cover for the box set. Each art card depicts different references to the John Wick series of films, and the box set comes with every film on Blu-ray, as well as DVD, for those looking to have a complete collection.

The collection also has a surprisingly large amount of special features that come included. Everything from behind-the-scenes documentaries to gag reels, each film has its own deep set of special features that are more than worth watching if you’re looking for more John Wick. The one downside, though, is that only the first two films feature audio commentary from director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves.

John Wick Chapters 1-4 Collection Blu-ray Review: The Final Verdict

The John Wick franchise has quickly become one of the most popular and well-known action series ever since the first film’s release in 2014. The stylish, expertly crafted fight scenes make every film worth watching, and with cameos from some of the biggest stars today in nearly every film, it’s a treat for any movie fan. The box set is one of the best ways to celebrate the franchise and is a must-buy for those looking to have the definitive John Wick collection.
