The Marvels Clip Highlights MCU Film’s Place-Switching Action

Marvel Studios has released an official clip from The Marvels, highlighting the upcoming superhero sequel’s place-swapping action.

The clip — titled “Friend of Yours?” — finds Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) fighting a group of adversaries inside Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel‘s (Iman Vellani) family home. At one point, Carol activates her cosmic powers, inadvertently tagging in Kamala herself. Upon teleporting once again, Kamala ends up fighting more baddies inside a space station, where she gets an assist from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

The new clip from The Marvels appears to take place immediately after the Season 1 finale of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ original series Ms. Marvel. In the final episode’s post-credits scene, Kamala mysterious disappeared, with Carol suddenly finding herself in the young hero’s bedroom in Jersey City, visibly confused as to how exactly she got there.

The Marvels — the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s next big-screen entry — will expound on how Carol and Kamala’s abilities have become cosmically entangled, causing the heroes to switch places whenever they’re activated. The two share the same connection to Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris), Carol’s estranged goddaughter. The MCU‘s Monica first appeared in the 2019 film Captain Marvel. She later took on a more active role in the 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision.

The Marvels flies into cinemas in November

Candyman helmer Nia DaCosta directs The Marvels from a screenplay she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik. The Captain Marvel sequel arrives in theaters next month as the third feature film (and fifth overall release) in Phase Five of the MCU.

An official synopsis reads as follows: “In Marvel Studios’ ‘The Marvels,’ Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.'”

The Marvels opens in theaters on Friday, November 10.
