Rebel Moon Zack Snyder Army of the Dead universe

Rebel Moon Is Secretly Connected to Another Zack Snyder Franchise

Zack Snyder has confirmed that Rebel Moon is set in the same universe as 2021’s Army of the Dead.

Revealed in the new issue of Total Film, per GamesRadar, Snyder’s upcoming Rebel Moon movie shares a universe with Army of the Dead and 2021’s Army of Thieves. According to Snyder, an uncompleted animated prequel series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas — which the Justice League director previously said had been stalled for “technical reasons” when speaking with The Nerd Queens in March 2023 — includes references to Rebel Moon.

“At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across,” Snyder said, “In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”

As for Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, Snyder said the anime-inspired series is basically finished; although, he offered no hints as to when fans might be able to see it. “We did all the scripts and the animatics, and all the voices are recorded,” he explained. “So you could watch it, even in its crazy animatic form – you can watch the whole run.”

What is Rebel Moon about?

“When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival,” the synopsis reads. “Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.”

Rebel Moon (also known as Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire) is receiving a limited theatrical release on December 15, 2023, before it then hits Netflix on December 22, 2023. A sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, is planned for April 19, 2024.
