Kevin Feige on the X-Men’s Introduction to the MCU: ‘Perhaps Soon’

Kevin Feige is hinting that fans may not have to wait too long to see the X-Men’s live-action introduction into the MCU.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Feige was asked if there was anything he could say about introducing the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“It’s super exciting,” Feige answered. “The X-Men are as solid and rich and great a concept in characters that exist. [We’re doing] the return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new, final episodes today, which really bring you back to that core of who the X-Men are and that soap opera that those characters represent. In live-action, people will see. Perhaps soon.”

Mutants are already gradually being introduced into the MCU

While fans are still waiting for characters such as Wolverine and Cyclops to make their MCU debut, Kamala Khan was revealed to be a mutant at the end of the 2022 Ms. Marvel miniseries. Additionally, 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Patrick Stewart briefly reprise his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X when Stephen Strange and America Chavez traveled to Earth-838.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is coming back in Deadpool 3, which will be the first Deadpool entry that’s part of the MCU. A number of other characters from Fox’s X-Men franchise are also rumored to be appearing in Deadpool 3; although, so far, the only other X-Men confirmed to be part of the movie are Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna’s Yukio, and Stefan Kapičić’s Colossus.

The Marvels, which opens in United States theaters on November 10, 2023, is additionally rumored to include teases referencing the X-Men.

X-Men ’97, the upcoming animated series Feige refers to in the interview, serves as a revival of the 1990s’ X-Men: The Animated Series. Featuring characters such as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Beast, Jubilee, and more, X-Men ’97 debuts on Disney+ in early 2024. A second season is already in development.
