Marvel Reportedly Moving Away From Jonathan Majors, Kang Dynasty Writer Removed

Disney and Marvel Studios are reportedly moving away from Jonathan MajorsKang the Conqueror.

Per Forbes, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios co-author Joanna Robinson revealed on a recent episode of the House of R podcast that Marvel is “likely” moving away from storylines involving Majors’ Kang.

According to Robinson, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness has also been taken off 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, thus making it unclear what the future may hold for the project as Majors’ legal situation continues to develop.

“I heard from someone recently … the screenwriter Jeff Loveness, who wrote Quantumania, was supposed to write The Kang Dynasty … anyway, it’s confirmed,” she said.

Robinson continued, “I had it confirmed to me he’s no longer working for Marvel. I asked the person why, and they said the reason why is he was all wrapped up in this Kang storyline and they are likely going to be moving away from that.”

Marvel Studios hasn’t yet confirmed plans for Kang moving forward

Majors’ Kang has now been featured in both seasons of Marvels’ Loki television series. He also served as the main antagonist of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which included a mid-credits scene teasing his presence in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

At this time, Marvel has not confirmed one way or another what they plan to do with Majors’ Kang or if Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will continue as planned, get a new title, or be scrapped altogether.

On November 1, 2023, Variety reported that Marvel had begun to “reconsider” its plan regarding Kang as Majors heads to trial for domestic violence charges. One source claimed the studio was already thinking about pivoting away from Majors after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania wasn’t a huge box office hit, while others said executives had discussed focusing on Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom instead of Kang in future projects.

For now, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still scheduled to come out in 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
