Thunderbolts: Invincible Creator Robert Kirkman Reveals Steven Yeun’s MCU Character

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has revealed Steven Yeun’s character in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

In a YouTube video posted by David Finch titled “Drawing Omni Man and a conversation with ROBERT KIRKMAN,” Kirkman revealed who Yeun will be portraying in the upcoming MCU film. The Beef actor was previously rumored to be playing Bob Reynolds/the Sentry in Thunderbolts, which Kirkman’s comments then confirm.

“My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie,” he said. “He called me, he went in for a costume fitting.

“I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that’ll get anybody in trouble,” Kirkman continued. “I don’t know, maybe, we’ll see. I don’t care, I don’t work for Marvel, what are they going to do to me? He said, ‘I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue.’ He said he was at the costume fitting and was like, ‘Oh crap, I forgot Invincible is yellow and blue.’”

Who else is starring in Marvel’s Thunderbolts?

Announced in 2022, Thunderbolts will star Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster.

Additionally, Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the film following February 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World, while The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri has been cast in an undisclosed role. The film is directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson and Lee Sung Jin.

Having been recently delayed following the conclusion of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, Thunderbolts hits theaters on July 25, 2025, from Marvel.
