Dave Filoni has been promoted to Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer (CCO).
Per Vanity Fair, Filoni has been promoted to CCO of Lucasfilm, meaning that he’ll work directly with Kathleen Kennedy and Carrie Beck to oversee and develop the next generation of Star Wars shows and movies.
“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good way,” Filoni explained.
He continued, “I’m not telling people what to do. But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.”
Dave Filoni will continue working on his Star Wars movie as CCO
At Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, Kennedy announced Filoni will be making a new movie set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens that serves as a “climatic story event” to The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Star Wars titles.
Filoni will continue developing the movie when taking on his new role. He’ll also explore the possibility of Ahsoka Season 2, which has not been officially confirmed but is reportedly being discussed at Lucasfilm.
“To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand,” Filoni said. “I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, ‘Well, Jedi are like this, and Sith are like this…’”
After directing a number of episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender for Nickelodeon, Filoni served as a supervising director for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. He also directed the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie in 2008 before then working on Star Wars Rebels in 2014. He’s been involved with all the live-action Disney+ Star Wars series apart from Andor, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew.
