Deadpool 3 set photos have confirmed the return of two X-Men villains from 20th Century Fox’s original film trilogy.
Per Mirror, the set photos show Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, in character as their respective X-Men antiheroes, Wolverine and Deadpool, fighting Sabretooth. The actors were reportedly filming an action scene that saw Wolverine decapitate Sabretooth with his claws. The scene ends with Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth picking and holding up Sabretooth’s decapitated head by its long hair.
The mutant Toad was also spotted on set, although no photos of that X-Men villain were publicly shared online. Sabretooth and Toad both appeared in X-Men (2000), played by Tyler Mane and Ray Park, respectively. At this time, it is unknown if Mane and Park have returned for Deadpool 3, though the former appears to be back as his version of Sabretooth.
Who else might appear in Deadpool 3?
With Deadpool 3 expected to see the titular Merc with a Mouth embark on a road trip through the Multiverse, there have been multiple rumors about former X-Men cast members making an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. While Sabretooth was previously rumored to appear, scoopers indicated that it would be Liev Schreiber’s version of the character, who appeared in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Other actors that will reportedly cameo in Deadpool 3 include Dafne Keen as X-23 (reprising the role from 2017’s Logan) and Jennifer Garner as Elektra (returning after playing the character in the films Daredevil and Elektra), as well as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, who starred in the original X-Men trilogy as Professor X and Magneto, respectively.
X-Men cameos were easy to come by, reveals director
Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy recently shared that it “blew [his] mind how easy some of those cameos have been,” revealing that actors were keen to work not only on a Deadpool movie but with Reynolds and himself.
“People love Deadpool. People love Ryan [Reynolds]. Thankfully, people also seem to like my work. They know that Ryan and I are in a groove of creative brotherhood that is unique and seems to be working,” Levy explained.
However, the director cautioned fans not to believe every rumor currently circulating on the web: “A lot of the internet rumors are completely false, but some of them aren’t.”
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
