The Flash: Grant Gustin Says WB Never Contacted Him About Appearing in the Ezra Miller Movie

The Flash TV series star Grant Gustin has confirmed that Warner Bros. never approached him about making an appearance in the 2023 Flash movie starring Ezra Miller.

Per FlashFacts4Real on Instagram, Gustin made an appearance at GalaxyCon, where he was asked why he did not share the screen opposite Miller’s Barry Allen in the DC Extended Universe installment. “Never, any at least, no one officially ever called me in as far as I know,” Gustin said. “My reps never told me if they did. So yeah, no one ever reached out to me about the movie.”

Grant Gustin’s support for Ezra Miller as The Flash

Before Miller’s first Flash appearance as a cameo in Zack Snyder‘s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gustin popularized the DC superhero on the small screen in The CW’s Flash, which premiered in October 2014. Though some DC fans wanted to see the Arrowverse version of Barry Allen on the big screen rather than Miller, Gustin expressed his support for Miller before the movie’s release. Both actors would come face-to-face in a comedic moment during The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event in 2019.

As the big screen iteration of The Flash involved Miller’s Barry Allen altering time to save his deceased mother, fans expected the Arrowverse‘s Flash to make a surprise cameo alongside Michael Keaton’s Batman and other past DC actors. Gustin, however, debunked all cameo rumors in March.

“There’s been a lot of rumors out there for a long time,” Gustin said. “No one’s come out and directly asked me, on the record, the entire time. People ask me on the street all the time, and I’m not keeping some big elaborate secret, no.”

The CW’s Flash ended its run in May after nine seasons. In June, Miller’s The Flash was released in theaters to mixed reviews and underperformed at the worldwide box office. While the character’s future in James Gunn‘s rebooted DCU remains unknown, Gustin will always cherish the fan support that he received for the role.

“THANK YOU to the fans who remained passionate about our show through 9 seasons,” Gustin said following The Flash’s season finale. “The show went through lots of changes but so many people stuck with us through it all. I look forward to hopefully continuing to meet some of you out in the world in passing and maybe even at conventions in the future… Honored to have had the chance to play this iconic character. I gave it absolutely everything I had. That’s all for now.”
