In Deadpool 3, Morena Baccarin will reprise her role from the first two Deadpool films as Vanessa, the love interest of Ryan Reynolds‘ Wade Wilson/Deadpool. However, fans should expect to see their relationship in a different light.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Baccarin discussed the unique dynamic between Wade and Vanessa. “I think it’s really cool that they are such well-met characters,” she said. “You can see them in and out of each other’s lives constantly. The comic, it’s the same way.”
Baccarin continued, “So I think that the franchise and Ryan and the director, they’ve done a really great job of always reinventing that relationship and making it interesting, but maintaining the core thing that keeps them always coming back to each other. So I think there’s a little bit more of that in this film.” She also confirmed that her own work in Deadpool 3 has been completed.
A love story in the wild world of Deadpool
Vanessa was introduced in the original Deadpool film, in which Wade fell in love with her before his transformation into the Merc With a Mouth. Although their relationship was going strong at the beginning of Deadpool 2, she was suddenly murdered and didn’t return until the post-credits scene, when Wade changed the past and saved her life.
In addition to bringing back Baccarin and a number of other fan-favorite characters from the first two movies in the Deadpool film series, the third installment will feature the greatly anticipated return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the X-Men role that he played for many years.
In addition to Reynolds, Jackman, and Baccarin, Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, Rob Delaney, and Matthew Macfadyen. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning alongside Zeb Wells, who pen the film from a previous draft by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.
Deadpool 3 is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
