Marvel Studios‘ Captain America: Brave New World has found a new writer in Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton.
As broken by Deadline, Marvel has tapped Orton to write “additional scenes and material” for its fourth Captain America film. Said material will be shot during the additional photography that is set to take place in the spring and summer of 2024. Orton previously served as a consulting producer on Marvel Studios’ 2022 Disney+ original series Moon Knight. He also co-wrote the series’ fifth and penultimate episode, “Asylum.”
The development and production of Captain America: Brave New World
Brave New World (originally titled Captain America: New World Order) stars Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Anthony Mackie, who reprises his role as Sam Wilson. Mackie’s Sam joined the MCU as the Falcon in the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier before eventually taking up the mantle of Captain America in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In 2021, Marvel tapped The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator/head writer Malcolm Spellman to pen Brave New World alongside Dalan Musson (who wrote the series’ fifth and penultimate episode, “Truth”). Julius Onah boarded the project as director in 2022. Cameras ultimately started rolling this past March. It later came to light that Onah had co-written the shooting script with Spellman.
Principal photography on Brave New World wrapped late this past June. However, in November, notable industry insider Jeff Sneider reported that the film was set to undergo extensive reshoots following poor test screenings. At the time, Sneider claimed that three major sequences would be removed and that additional photography would last from approximately January to May.
That said, it should also be noted that every Marvel Studios film goes through reshoots as part of the studio’s quality control process. Per Deadline, additional photography on a Marvel movie can last anywhere from three days to two weeks.
Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters on February 14, 2025. In addition to Mackie, the film stars Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore, Rosa Salazar, and WWE superstar Seth Rollins (real name Colby Lopez).
