Ethan Hawke is really, really hoping to be cast in a Star Wars project.
Speaking on the TODAY show, per ComicBook.com, Hawke was asked about his ongoing desire to be cast in a Star Wars movie or television show, a matter he’s been vocal about in the past.
“That hasn’t worked,” he said with a laugh. “I’ve said it on every talk show, thinking I’m going to get [cast]. I’ve put it out there, but it hasn’t helped.”
Noting he’d gladly play “Obi-Wan’s best friend” or any other role offered to him, Hawke added, “I’ll do whatever they want. Give me a lightsaber. I’ll be a bad guy, I’ll be a good guy, I don’t care.”
Hawke spent several years openly talking about how he wanted to appear in a Star Wars project. He told Screen Rant in June 2022, “I mean, I did a hard public pitch! I know, and I see all these great people in these things and I could have played that part. I could have played that part. I guess somebody up there doesn’t like me.”

While he has yet to make his debut in the world of Star Wars, Hawke does play a character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the 2022 Moon Knight miniseries, Hawke played Arthur Harrow, an antagonist who runs a cult associated with the Egyptian goddess Ammit.
Hawke previously expressed interest in reprising his role as Arthur Harrow, as he told RadioTimes in May 2022, “Do you want to play the same character for long periods of time? Most actors don’t. But if you’re making audiences happy, your opinion changes.”
Hawke is also known for starring in movies such as 1985’s Explorers, 2001’s Training Day, Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy (1995’s Before Sunrise, 2004’s Before Sunset, and 2013’s Before Midnight), 2012’s Sinister, 2013’s The Purge, 2022’s The Northman, and more. He’s currently attached to reprise his role as The Grabber in a sequel to 2021’s The Black Phone, which is scheduled to release on June 27, 2025.
