Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn shared one of his own storyboard sketches from the film, featuring an appearance from the bald eagle of Gunn’s DC Studios series Peacemaker.
On the social media platform Threads, Gunn posted a pencil drawing depicting a scene near the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, in which a stampede of various animals is released from the High Evolutionary’s laboratories. Although the sketch is very simple, the main characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film can all be identified, all of them carrying animals and running along with the herd. A side-by-side comparison with the corresponding shot from the movie shows that the concept was brought to life quite accurately.
In his caption on the images, Gunn pointed out two animal Easter eggs, writing, “Here’s a kind of fun one from GuardiansoftheGalaxyVol3 (some other fun facts about this shot – that’s Eagly’s cameo up at the top and that’s our Executive Producer Simon Hatt’s dog River at the bottom in the final).”

Created, written, and co-directed by Gunn, Peacemaker Season 1 premiered in January 2022, serving as a direct follow-up to Gunn’s 2021 DCEU film The Suicide Squad. John Cena reprised his role as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, and gained a sidekick in the form of a bald eagle named Eagly (portrayed by CGI throughout the season). The season concluded in February 2022, at which point Max ordered another. Season 2 does not yet have a release date announced, although Gunn stated in October that he was writing the script.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was the last Marvel Studios film to be written and directed by Gunn. The movie completes the story of Rocket Raccoon, who returns to the lab where he was tormented, and with the help of the other Guardians, rescues other creatures from a similar fate.
The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is available to stream now on Disney+. Peacemaker is streaming on Max.
