Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem director Jeff Rowe says that Shredder will be “100 times scarier” than Superfly was.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Rowe touched on what fans can expect out of Shredder in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem sequel.
“Shredder used to be the main villain [in Mutant Mayhem] before we pivoted away from that,” he said. “They saved the Joker for The Dark Knight.”
He continued, “The one thing I can say without spoiling anything is, [Shredder] needs to be 100 times scarier than Superfly — who is a credible villain, he’s dangerous, he’s strong, he seems like he could mess the Turtles up. Shredder needs to be that, just significantly more.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem hit United States theaters in August 2023. Ice Cube voiced Superfly, the main antagonist of the film, while the movie’s final moments included a tease that Shredder would be introduced in the forthcoming sequel.

Rowe previously told Collider, “Shredder is just a great character. He’s an iconic, classic, loved character. He’s like the Joker. You know who he is, even if you’re not a fan of the source material. I think we definitely wanna do a villain-forward film. We’re currently trying to make decisions about that, but those decisions for us as filmmakers are always going to come from the place of what tells the best story, specifically about our main characters, the Turtles.”
With a screenplay written by Rowe, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’s voice cast also includes Micah Abbey as Donatello, Sharon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Brady Noon as Raphael, Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neal, John Cena as Rocksteady, Rogen as Bebop, and Jackie Chan as Splinter.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is currently streaming on Paramount+. A release date for the sequel has not yet been announced.
