Eternals: Barry Keoghan Wants a Druig Spin-off

Marvel’s Eternals star Barry Keoghan wants a spin-off movie focused on a dark turn for his mind-controlling character Druig.

“I’d love to see a movie of him just playing about, mind-controlling everyone,” Keoghan said in an interview with GQ where he broke down his iconic movie roles. “No real motive, just mind-controlling for the sake of it. Prep for that is, you’re doing superhero movies, so you gotta humanize them. Don’t play for the superhero. Try and bring the human side of them out.”

2021’s Eternals was expected to be a game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the prestige of Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao and a diverse all-star cast led by Gemma Chan, the grounded but ambitious production marked a sharp departure from previous MCU entries. Unfortunately, Eternals became the lowest-rated movie in the history of the MCU with a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

What is happening with Eternals 2?

Since Eternals’ release, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm development on a sequel. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has teased eventual payoffs for multiple setups from the movie, including the arrival of Thanos’ brother Starfox (Harry Styles) and the frozen Celestial corpse in the Indian Ocean. Actor Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Eternals member Kingo, says he’s anxious to reprise the role as soon as Marvel gives the green light.

“I mean, listen, I have plans today,” said Nanjiani. “I don’t know if they have plans. I would love to come back. But I’m sort of waiting to hear when or if that’s going to happen. I’m hoping I get to do more. I had a great time playing that character. It’d be a shame if he’s a sort of one-and-done. But, you know, the decision’s not mine to make.”

Eternals is now streaming on Disney+.
