While not a whole lot is known about the upcoming Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars movie, the actress recently praised the parts of the story she’s been told.
Speaking to Variety, Ridley was asked what it’s like working with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who is set to helm the new Star Wars movie. Ridley praised her previous films, and also said that her idea for the new movie is “cool as s—,” and a “worthwhile” entry.
“The short answer is I don’t know,” said Ridley about what kind of impact Chinoy would have on the film. “I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman. Her documentaries are amazing. Her idea for the story is cool as shit. No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, ‘OK, call me in five years.’ But it’s worthwhile.”
What do we know about the Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars film?
The Rey-focused movie is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) and written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. It will star Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, who last appeared in Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker.
The latest Star Wars film released in theaters was 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The film grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, but the final installment in the sequel trilogy was not only the lowest-grossing film in the sequel trilogy, but was also extremely divisive amongst fans and critics.
