Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Trailer Features Familiar Faces and New Threats

The stars of 1984’s Ghostbusters and 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife find themselves under the threat of a second Ice Age in the new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Sony released the latest trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters installment that recalls the events of the original movie with the surprise return of EPA inspector Walter Peck (William Atherton), who looks to make trouble for the new team. Meanwhile, an ancient supernatural entity with the “power to kill by fear itself” gets awakened by the new franchise scientist character Lars Pinfield (James Acaster).

In addition to the return of the legacy Ghostbusters cast, the trailer gives a first glimpse of Annie Potts’ Janine Melnitz suiting up in the Ghostbusters uniform for the first time as well as the returns of the Librarian Ghost from the original movie, the Mini-Puffs, and fan favorite Slimer who was left out of Afterlife in favor of the Muncher ghost voiced by Josh Gad.

What happens in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire?

“In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level,” says the official description. “But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”

Directed by Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire stars Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd reprising their roles from 2021’s Afterlife. Additionally, original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton. Newcomers to the franchise include Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and James Acaster.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire hits cinemas on March 22.
