New Dune: Part Two Stills Spotlight Paul’s Final Battle With Feyd-Rautha

Legendary and Warner Bros. have shared three new stills from Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Part Two ahead of the film’s release this March.

Revealed exclusively by Total Film (via GamesRadar+), the first of the new images actually comes from Dune: Part Two’s climax. It spotlights the fateful duel between Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Austin Butler). The second image, meanwhile, shows Paul — aka Muad’Dib — walking alone through the sands of Arrakis. The third and final image puts the focus on the Fremen warrior Chani (Zendaya).

What is Dune: Part Two about?

A direct sequel to Villeneuve’s Dune (2021), Dune: Part Two adapts the second half of Frank Herbert’s seminal 1965 sci-fi novel. An official synopsis reads as follows: “‘Dune: Part Two’ will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Chalamet and Zendaya reprise their respective roles from the 2021 film. The sequel also marks the return of Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

Meanwhile, Butler is one of several newcomers joining the fray in Dune: Part Two. Others include Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Christopher Walken as Shaddam IV, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli. Additionally, Tim Blake Nelson has been cast in an undisclosed role.

Looking into the future

All that being said, Dune: Part Two will not be the end of the sci-fi franchise’s current incarnation. A third film based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 sequel novel, Dune Messiah, is looking increasingly likely. Furthermore, a prequel series titled Dune: Prophecy is currently in the works for Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming service. The series takes its cues from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s 2012 novel Sisterhood of Dune.

Dune: Part Two opens in theaters on Wednesday, March 1.
