What do we know about Joker: Folie à Deux?
Joker: Folie à Deux is a sequel to 2019’s Joker, which was directed by Todd Phillips and made over a billion dollars at the global box office off an estimated budget of $55-70 million. Joker was nominated for a number of Academy Awards, including Best Picture, while Phoenix won Best Actor for his performance.
While Joker was originally intended to be a standalone film, Joker: Folie à Deux was officially announced in June 2022.
Phillips is once again directing the movie and co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. Zazie Beetz is also reprising her role as Sophie Dumond in Joker: Folie à Deux, while Laday Gaga is playing Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn.
Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey are all playing undisclosed roles in the film.
Shortly after the film was officially announced, news broke that Joker: Folie à Deux would be a musical. The DC Studios sequel is now expected to be a jukebox musical in the same vein as Mamma Mia! and Moulin Rouge! with 15 songs, one of them being “That’s Entertainment!” from 1953’s The Band Wagon. The full soundtrack for the movie has not yet been revealed.
Joker: Folie à Deux releases in United States theaters on October 4, 2024, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
