What is Transformers One about?
“This long-awaited origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to become sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron,” a description of the film reads.
Based on the Transformers action figures, Transformers One is directed by Josh Cooley, who previously helmed 2019’s Toy Story 4. Cooley has also worked as a storyboard artist on a number of other Pixar movies, including 2007’s Ratatouille, 2009’s Up, and more.
The voice cast of Transformers One includes Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16/Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, and Keegan-Michael Key as B-127. Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm also voice characters in the film.
Transformers One is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian, and Aaron Dem. Steven Spielberg, Zev Foreman, Olivier Dumont, Brian Oliver, B.J. Farmer, and Matt Quigg serve as executive producers.
While there have been a number of animated Transformers movies and television series over the years, Michael Bay made the first live-action Transformers film in 2007. He followed that with 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 2011’s Transformers Dark of the Moon, 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, and 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight. Travis Knight then made Bumblebee in 2018, which was followed by Steven Caple Jr.’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in 2023.
Transformers One releases in United States theaters on September 20, 2024.
