Amazon MGM Studios has announced a release date for the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM’s Masters of the Universe movie will be released in theaters across the globe on June 5, 2026.
The film, according to the synopsis, follows “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
Who is involved with the Masters of the Universe movie?
The Masters of the Universe movie is being directed by Travis Knight, who is known for making 2016’s Kubo and the Two Strings and 2018’s Bumblebee. He’s also working on another film called Wildwood that stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, and Tom Waits. Wildwood is expected to be released in 2025.
The script for the live-action Masters of the Universe movie was written by Chris Butler. Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing the film.
A Masters of the Universe movie has been in the works for a number of years. Noah Centineo was attached to play He-Man at one point; however, a representative for Centineo announced he had dropped out of the project in 2021. The Masters of the Universe was sold to Netflix in 2022, though Netflix canceled the film in July 2023 with Amazon MGM then acquiring the property in November 2023.
Masters of the Universe releases in United States theaters on June 5, 2026.
