Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Wants John Boyega Back in the Rey Skywalker Movie

Daisy Ridley says she wants to see a reunion between Rey Skywalker and John Boyega‘s Finn in her upcoming Star Wars project.

“Absolutely, of course,” Ridley said to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting her latest movie Young Woman and the Sea. “It feels like we should, yeah.”

From the time they were introduced in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey and Finn’s paths were intertwined in their battle against the First Order. As Rey evolved from a loner on the planet of Jakku to a Jedi Knight, Finn transitioned from a Stormtrooper to a force-sensitive Resistance war hero.

While Ridley would like to see Boyega back in the franchise, the actor has expressed some hesitance due to his mixed feelings on Finn’s story arc in the sequel trilogy. Additionally, Boyega has his eye on original projects such as 2022’s The Woman King. “I think for me, I’m just focused on doing the original movies at the moment,” Boyega said to Total Film. “There is a big want and need for original films, rather than being stuck on a franchise for a long amount of time playing one character. That can sometimes get you typecast and misjudged. I’m enjoying playing individual characters and having to do the work and switch up every single film. So that’s where I’m at at the moment, and I’m enjoying that for now.”

What is the Rey Skywalker movie about?

Announced by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, the untitled Rey Skywalker movie will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) with a screenplay by Steven Knight based on an earlier draft by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. While the secret premise involves Rey as a Jedi Master 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Ridley confirms that she only knows the story beats as the script remains a work in progress.

The untitled Rey Skywalker movie does not have a release date.
