Simon Kinberg is producing a new Star Trek prequel movie

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Kinberg, who is known for being heavily involved with the X-Men franchise, is producing a new Star Trek movie for Paramount Pictures. Toby Haynes is directing the film, while Seth Grahame-Smith is writing the script.

“The project is said to be set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times. It is said to involve the creation of the Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article reads.

Abrams will produce the movie, which does not yet have a release date but is eyeing a 2025 opening.

If the move proves to be a success, Kinberg will likely continue to take “active creative roles on the rest of the storied franchise’s film side.”
