James Gunn says that 2025’s Superman is about halfway through filming.
In a recent Instagram post, Gunn was asked in the comments when the first trailer for 2025’s Superman would be released and if it would potentially be ready to play in front of July 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Production on the film began on February 29, 2024, which is the Man of Steel’s canonical birthday.
Gunn responded to the comment, “We’re only a little over halfway thru shooting.”
Who is starring in James Gunn’s Superman movie?
Formerly known as Superman: Legacy, Superman is written and directed by Gunn. It stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.
Specific details for Superman remain largely under wraps at this time. The first official image from the movie was shared by Gunn earlier this month and can be viewed by clicking here.
Superman will be the first official film entry in Gunn and Safran’s forthcoming DCU; although, prior to that, an animated Creature Commandos series will first be released in 2024.
Other planned DCU movies include Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (which stars Milly Alcock and is currently scheduled to be released in June 2026), Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, James Mangold’s Swamp Thing, The Authority, and a Teen Titans film.
Gunn’s Superman will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025, as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
