María Gabriela de Faría, who is playing The Engineer in James Gunn’s Superman movie, is opening up about her forthcoming DCU character.
In November 2023, de Faría was cast to play Angela Spice/The Engineer, a character who was first introduced in 1999’s The Authority #1, in Gunn’s DCU Superman movie.
In a Reddit AMA for The Duel, which de Faría also stars in, the Superman star was asked about her in Gunn’s movie.
What did María Gabriela de Faría say about her Superman character?
“She is badass,” de Faría answered. “She is a very strong character and it’s been a huge challenge to portray her from every aspect. I don’t know how much I should share because we are not supposed to talk about the movie at all and I don’t wanna get fired.”
When asked what it was like working with Gunn and David Corenswet, who plays the titular Man of Steel, de Faría said, “It’s one of the friendliest sets I’ve ever worked on. Everybody is so kind, and talented and focused. David is perfect as Superman, he might actually be Superman posing as David Corenswet. James know exactly what he wants and doesn’t improvise on the fly, everything is calculated but feels very free at the same time. I’m very excited for the audience to see a good, colorful, happy story about our favorite superhero.”
Along with Corenswet and de Faría, Superman stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher Mcdonald as Ron Troupe.
Superman will be released in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.
