There isn’t much that Channing Tatum wouldn’t be willing to do in order to get a Gambit solo movie.
Tatum stars as Gambit in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, which is currently playing in United States theaters. The actor previously spent many years prior to appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine trying to get a Gambit movie made; however, it ultimately never came to fruition.
What did Channing Tatum say about a Gambit solo movie?
Reflecting on how he tried to get a Gambit movie made when appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tatum said, “It was at Fox first. I worked on it for like six years trying to get a stand-alone [movie] to happen. Then, right on the one-yard line, we were about to make the movie and then Fox got bought by Disney. Kevin Feige, who runs Marvel, I love him so much. He literally was like, ‘Look, I love Gambit, I just don’t know how to do it right now. I don’t know how he fits into what we’re doing so I need to have a minute to figure it out.’ Now, we’ve sort of cracked a little bit of a code.”
When asked if he’d still be willing to star in a Gambit solo movie, Tatum said, “I would kill kittens to make [one]. I’d do lots of terrible things to make that happen.”
Tatum also praised Ryan Reynolds for allowing his live-action version of Gambit to finally come to life in Deadpool & Wolverine.
“This industry is a really interesting thing,” he said. “I can honestly say that not one single person is just more of a class-act and cares more than that man. He took Gambit out of truly the grave. He was just nothing and nowhere. [Reynolds] was like, ‘I want this for you, I want this in the movie, and I want to see it.’ He made it happen and I’ll forever be grateful to him.”
