Prior to Moss-Bachrach’s casting, the Thing was played by Michael Bailey Smith/Carl Ciarfalio in 1994’s The Fantastic Four, Michael Chiklis in 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Jamie Bell in 2015’s Fantastic Four.

Who else is starring in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?

Along with the aforementioned cast, The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.

Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne have also been cast in undisclosed roles in the movie. It was announced that Robert Downey Jr., who famously played Tony Stark in the MCU for many years, is now playing Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. Doctor Doom is traditionally one of the Fantastic Four’s arch-enemies, though it’s not immediately clear if Downey Jr. will be part of the film.

Plot details for The Fantastic Four: First Steps remain under wraps at this time; although, Kevin Feige confirmed that the movie will be a period piece that’s seemingly set in an alternate reality within Marvel’s multiverse.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
