Earlier this week, 20th Century Fox moved the Matt Reeves-directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes up a week from July 18, 2014 to July 11, 2014. This was in response to word that Universal Pictures will likely not make the July 11 date for Fast & Furious 7 following Paul Walker’s death. While Universal has not confirmed any release date push, we assume the other studios know what’s going on behind the scenes.
Which brings us to another release date change, this time for Andy and Lana Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending, which just debuted its first trailer this week (see below). The movie was originally scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2014, but now that “Apes” was moved up a week, Warner Bros. has followed in its footsteps and moved Jupiter Ascending up to July 18, 2014. The other film scheduled for July 18 is Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue.
This move means that the Dwayne Johnson-starrer Hercules is now by itself on July 25, 2014, something we think MGM and Paramount won’t be too upset about!
Jupiter Ascending stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D’Arcy and Tim Pigott-Smith.
