Dwayne Johnson Suggests Shazam Could Arrive Earlier

When Warner Bros. announced their slate of DC Comics films, one of the surprises was that Shazam wouldn’t be arriving until 2019. Given that Dwayne Johnson was already attached and a script was in the works, a five-year wait for a project already in the works was a bit of a shock. Now, in an interview with MTV, Johnson says that they might move the film up from its release date.

“It may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The script is coming in, it’s great, the support from the studio has been great. It’s just a great opportunity, especially with Black Adam where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy, turns into an anti-hero, we can make him vicious, a little bit of winking charm.”

Johnson goes on to confirm they’re not sure who will play the titular hero in the film.

Jack the Giant Slayer scribe Darren Lemke is currently penning the script for Shazam, which is set to be released April 5, 2019, just a month before Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part II. The film tells the story of teenager Billy Batson, who transforms into the superhero when he says the magic word “Shazam!” Johnson is set to star as the lead antagonist, Black Adam.
