X-Men: Apocalypse Cairo Set Teased in New Photo

Will this Cairo set be a part of Storm’s origin story in X-Men: Apocalypse?

In his latest behind-the-scenes post to social media, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer takes a stroll through the film’s Cairo set. In addition to having ties to Oscar Isaac’s Egyptian mutant Apocalypse, Cairo is well known to fans of the X-Men comics for being the childhood home of Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. Check out the image in Singer’s original post below!

Although she was born in Manhattan, comic book lore had Ororo moving to Cairo as an infant, only to lose her parents in a plane crash at age five. Although she survived the crash, Ororo was trapped in wreckage, which caused her to develop severe claustrophobia. Even after being freed, her troubles were far from over and she wound up living on the streets of Cairo, surviving as a pickpocket. In the new film, Alexandra Shipp is taking over the role made famous by Halle Berry and, if this photo is any indication, we’re likely to get a big screen take on Storm’s origins.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are set to lead the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse as Magneto, Professor X, Mystique, and Beast. The film will also see the return of Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Lucas Till as Havok and newcomers Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Lana Condor as Jubilee. Writer/producer Simon Kinberg is scripting the film from a treatment he wrote with X2: X-Men United writers Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris.

Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, the Bryan Singer directed X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.
