Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Now the #3 Movie of All-Time

Star Wars: The Force Awakens continued its record-setting run this weekend to reach $1.733 billion globally to now stand as the #3 movie of all-time worldwide, passing Jurassic World‘s $1.669 billion. Domestically, it has also now become the first movie ever to cross $800 million, with an estimated $812 million to date.

This weekend, Star Wars: The Force Awakens added an estimated $145.9 million globally, including $41.6 million domestically in first place and $104.3 million internationally. China led the way as the final international market to open with an estimated two-day weekend total of $53 million, making it the highest Saturday/Sunday opening of all-time there as well as the biggest industry opening Saturday of all-time. Elsewhere, the film passed Skyfall in the UK to become the highest-grossing movie in industry history there and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the #3 highest-grossing movie of all-time within Europe. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also now the highest-grossing Disney release of all-time in Russia, where it is also the #3 all-time highest grossing release in industry history. In Australia, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the #2 highest-grossing movie of all-time.

With this weekend, IMAX global box office now totals $179 million and in record-setting time: 26 days vs. Avatar, which reached $175 million in 58 days. For China, Star Wars: The Force Awakens posted the best-ever Saturday for IMAX with $4.3 million, overtaking the previous best-ever Saturday. The $8.1 million to date also far exceeds any previous 2-day opening.

Domestically, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the #1 movie of all-time and has reached $812 million. Internationally, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the #7 movie of all-time with $921.4 million, passing Transformers: Age of Extinction ($858.6 million), Frozen ($875.7 million) and Marvel’s The Avengers ($896.2 million). Worldwide, the only two movies still ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens are James Cameron’s Titanic ($2.187 billion) and Avatar ($2.788 billion).
