Has Marvel Found Their Captain Marvel Star?

Recent Academy Award winner Brie Larson is reportedly in talks to be the Captain Marvel star!

Has Marvel Studios found its Captain Marvel star? Variety is reporting that recent Academy Award winner Brie Larson has entered early talks to play Carol Danvers and that she is the current frontrunner for the role.

In the regular Marvel Comics continuity, Carol Danvers made her first appearance in 1968’s “Marvel Super-Heroes” #13. A Security Chief in the US air force, Danvers would later be transformed  into the superhero Ms. Marvel following an explosion involving Kree technology. More recently, Danvers took on the identity of Captain Marvel after being “promoted” to the moniker of the former Kree superhero.

Little is known regarding Marvel’s specific plans for Captain Marvel outside of the fact that the film will feature the Danvers version of the character. It was confirmed last year that a Captain Marvel cameo was, at one point, part of the script for Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained that the decision was ultimately made not to rush her appearance. It was also recently reported that Captain Marvel will make her debut in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, which is set to begin production in November. The first part of Infinity War is scheduled to hit the big screen May 4, 2018 with the second half following on May 3, 2019. Between those two films will be Captain Marvel, which arrives March 8, 2019.

Brie Larson is no stranger to comic book adaptations. She played Envy Adams in Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Following her Oscar win for last year’s Room, Larson is headed to adventure as part of the cast of next March’s Kong: Skull Island.

Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) are scripting Captain Marvel, which does not yet have a director attached.
