Rick Gonzalez will play the DC Comics vigilante Wild Dog
The small screen DC Comics multiverse continues to expand today. On the heels of a report that sees Minority Report Nick Zano joining DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, EW brings word that Rick Gonzalez (Rush, Mr. Robot) is joining the cast of The CW‘s Arrow season five. What’s more, he’ll be playing a role that should be familiar to longtime comic book readers: the vigilante known as Wild Dog!
Created by Max Allan Collins and Terry Beatty, Wild Dog made his debut in the first issue of an eponymous 1987 miniseries. In it, a young man named Jack Wheeler takes on the Wild Dog identity as a means of fighting back after he loses friends to a terrorist bombing and his girlfriend to the Chicago mob. Although Wheeler himself doesn’t have any super powers, he carries a submachine gun and a pair of electric gloves that he uses to shock his enemies. Following his miniseries debut, Wild Dog became a backup character in Action Comics.
According to the original report, Rick Gonzalez’ take on Wild Dog will see the “reckless and cocksure” vigilante become a protege of sorts to Stephen Amell‘s Oliver Queen.
Arrow also stars David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, John Barrowman as Malcom Merlyn, with Paul Blackthorne as Detective Lance. The series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter.
