Last month, it was confirmed that not only had the popular Disney Infinity video game series been canceled but that The Walt Disney Company was getting out of video game publishing entirely, opting instead to license out their properties instead. Since then, details have begun to pour out about the things that were being planned for the future of the series and it makes the sting of the series’ cancellation hurt even more.
In a previous report on Kotaku, it was revealed that plans were being made for the next installment of the game to include content based on the likes of Cars 3, Star Wars: Episode VIII, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Thor: Ragnarok, but it was said that even more content for the 3.0 edition would have been released later this year ,including a Doctor Strange figure (based on Benedict Cumberbatch’s appearance in the upcoming film) and the first wave of 12″ premium figures, including Buzz Lightyear, Jack Skellington, Darth Vader, Hulkbuster Iron Man and The Hulk.
Now, new assets from the now canceled Disney Infinity line have been revealed online thanks to Infiniteer Adventures on YouTube which offers a first look at what the Doctor Strange and 12″ Hulk figures would have looked like. In addition, it has also been revealed that Disney Interactive was working on figures for Peter Pan, Jafar from Aladdin and even the fan-favorite Spider-Gwen character from Marvel Comics. The first version of Disney Infinity was released in 2013 and featured a number of playable characters from the Disney pantheon such as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles, Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas, among others. It was followed by a second installment the next year, focusing primarily on Marvel Super Heroes and allowing players to swing as Spider-Man, fly as Iron Man and Thor, or take to space with Rocket Raccoon. The third and final release debuted last year and was built entirely around Star Wars, with play sets for the original trilogy, prequel trilogy, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
