Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover on the Han Solo Film

Last week, Lucasfilm announced that Donald Glover was joining Alden Ehrenreich in the Han Solo film, and now both actors have talked about being cast in the highly-anticipated 2018 release, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Ehrenreich, who plays the title role, told Interview magazine he is in London preparing for the role.

“I had an audition process that went on for a long time, and I got to spend a lot of time with the guys who are directing the film,” he said. “Getting to be around them and being around the world a little bit has been the main experience so far. I did my audition on the Millennium Falcon for one of my screen tests, which was pretty cool.”

Asked if he could describe the audition process more, Ehrenreich added: “It was pretty fun, because I enjoyed the material a lot. Last year I read for the directors, then came to England and did a test on the Falcon, then came back and did a couple more screen tests in Los Angeles.”

The actor said that he has not met Harrison Ford yet and hasn’t communicated with him about the role, but did say he’s been a fan for a long time. “I remember pretending to be the characters in the movies when I was a little kid. The last three movies I’ve done, I played a cowboy, then I played a soldier, and now I play Han Solo. So the little kid in me is having a real joyride.”

Donald Glover, meanwhile, appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (via EW) shared his parents’ reaction to the news and revealed that a Lando action figure was the first toy given to him by his dad when he was a child.

“He was like, ‘Aww.’ My mom was in the back; she was like, ‘Don’t mess it up! Don’t mess this up!’ ‘Cause Billy Dee — like, that’s hers.”

Glover added that getting cast has been really crazy. “I don’t know. I’m very honored. It’s a very big deal.”

But DeGeneres said: “You say it’s crazy, but you kind of put it out there that you want to be in Star Wars, you put it out there that you want to be in Spider-Man, and both of those things happened.”
