Deadpool, Game of Thrones and Westworld Nominated for Golden Globes

Don Cheadle, Laura Dern and Anna Kendrick announced the nominees for the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and some surprising nominations were revealed for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s awards show.

Up first we have HBO’s two genre series, Game of Thrones and Westworld, which both secured a nomination for Best Television Series, Drama. Lena Headey was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a series for Game of Thrones with Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton securing a Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nomination, respectively, for Westworld.

The surprising part, however, is 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool, which not only landed a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy for star Ryan Reynolds but also for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy as well.

The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live coast-to-coast on NBC Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 5-8PM PT/8-11PM ET from the Beverly Hilton Hotel with host Jimmy Fallon. Previously announced, eight-time Golden Globe-winner Meryl Streep will be the recipient of the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award. Produced by dick clark productions in association with the HFPA, the Golden Globe Awards are viewed in more than 236 countries worldwide and are one of the few awards ceremonies to include both motion picture and television achievements.
