The eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones proved to be divisive among fans of the series. However, the backlash to the finale wasn’t enough to stop Game of Thrones from reclaiming its spot at the Emmys. George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic was once again named the best drama series on television.
This marks Game of Thrones‘ fourth Emmy win for Outstanding Drama Series. It also leaves GoT with a record 58 Emmy awards for a drama. However, only one cast member walked away with an award from this year’s ceremony. Peter Dinklage won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for his performance as Tyrion Lannister. Dinklage defeated his fellow cast members Alfie Allen and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, as well as Better Call Saul stars Jonathan Banks and Giancarlo Esposito, House of Cards‘ Michael Kelly, and Chris Sullivan from This is Us. This is Dinklage’s fourth award in this category.

Unfortunately for the show’s female cast, Emilia Clarke lost to Killing Eve star Jodie Comer in the Outstanding Lead Actress category. Gwendoline Christie, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams were also shut out in the supporting actress category. Instead, that award went to Ozark star Julia Garner. Kit Harington was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama, but Pose‘s Billy Porter took that award.
