Ahead of his Castlevania series premiere this Friday, producer Adi Shankar has taken to Facebook to reveal his next animated project: an Assassin’s Creed anime series.
“I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project,” Shankar writes. “I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.”
Last year, it was first revealed that Ubisoft was in talks with Netflix to create a new series, and later still it was revealed they were working on an Assassin’s Creed series. Putting two and two together given his upcoming project, it seems like Shankar’s Assassin’s Creed anime could wind up at Netflix, though this has yet to be officially confirmed.
2016 saw the release of the live-action Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender as 21st century criminal Callum Lynch and his ancestor Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. The film was directed by Justin Kurrzel and managed to bring in $240 million at the global box office despite poor reviews.
The next game in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Origins, brings the series all the way back to ancient Egypt and will arrive on Xbox One, PS4, and PC October 27.
