Christopher Nolan Would ‘Definitely’ Like to Direct a James Bond Film

A Christopher Nolan James Bond film remains a definite possiblity

Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception) just said in an interview with Playboy (via Variety) that he would be interested in directing a James Bond film. He said, however, that it would have to be a reinvention that needed him.

“A Bond movie, definitely,” Nolan told the magazine. “I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well.”

The next James Bond film may see the return of star Daniel Craig, who had previously said he wasn’t interested. Vulture reported that Craig said as much at the New Yorker Festival in 2016.

“They say that sh*t sticks, and that definitely stuck,” Craig said of the infamous comment. “It was the day after filming [stopped on ‘Spectre’]. I’d been away from home for a year. Boo-hoo. It’s a good gig. I enjoy it.”

Nolan is known for his work on The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar. His next film is Dunkirk, starring Fionn Whitehead (HimThe Children Act), Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy and Barry Keoghan, with Kenneth Branagh (My Week with MarilynHamletHenry V), Cillian Murphy (InceptionThe Dark Knight Trilogy), Mark Rylance (Bridge of SpiesWolf Hall) and Tom Hardy (The RevenantMad Max: Fury RoadInception). Dunkirk opens in theaters on July 21.
