Solo Box Office Sinks to $29 Million in Second Weekend

Disney and Lucasfilm‘s Solo: A Star Wars Story is cruising at a low altitude now, but has secured the #1 position at the domestic box office once again. Studio estimates have the film’s second weekend gross at $29.3 million, a 65% dip from its first weekend, bringing its domestic total to $148.9 million. For comparison, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi both eclipsed $148 million within their second day of release while Rogue One crossed that threshold after just three days. Solo brought in an additional $30.3 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $264.2 million after ten days. Directed by Ron Howard, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Joonas Suotamo. Woody Harrelson Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool 2 followed in second place, bringing in $23.3 million in its third weekend; officially passing Logan, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: The Last Stand to become the second highest grossing X-Men movie of all time domestically (behind the first Deadpool by $110 million). Internationally, the sequel brought in an additional $41.6 million, bringing its international total to $344 million and giving it a global total of $598.7. The film is now within $20 million of passing Logan‘s worldwide total but remains well behind the final grosses of X-Men: Days of Future Past and the first Deadpool. The David Leitch-directed film stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War brought in an additional $10.4 million domestically, bringing its total to $642.9 million. Internationally the film posted another $24.3 million, bringing the film’s global total to $1.96 billion and putting it within striking distance of the elusive $2 billion club (which is currently home to just Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Titanic, and Avatar).
