David Dastmalchian is Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad

James Gunn has recruited another MCU veteran to co-star in The Suicide Squad. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Dastmalchian has joined the film’s cast as Polka-Dot Man, one of the new additions to the titular team of anti-heroes.

Marvel fans know Dastmalchian from playing Kurt, one of Scott Lang’s X-Con cohorts, in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Of course, this hasn’t been his only foray into the comic book world. Dastmalchian made his feature debut in The Dark Knight as a Joker lackey. In 2017, he played Abra Kadabra on an episode of The Flash and also starred as Dwight Pollard on two episodes of Gotham. Dastmalchian will next appear in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake as the mentat assassin Piter De Vries.

Polka-Dot Man made his first appearance almost 60 years ago in 1962’s Detective Comics #300. Originally introduced as Mister Polka-Dot, Abner Krill wore a costume with removable dots that could be used as a variety of different weapons. The character all but faded into obscurity over the next several decades. However, 1996’s Batman: GCPD series granted him a memorable resurgence when Detective Harvey Bullock viciously beat the criminal following a botched robbery. After this, Krill attempted to sue Gotham City.

Dasmalchian joins returning Suicide Squad cast members Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) in Gunn’s sequel. In addition to Polka-Dot Man, the film will also bring King Shark, Peacemaker, and Ratcatcher into the DCEU. Idris Elba has a part in the sequel as well, but the nature of his role hasn’t been disclosed yet.

The Suicide Squad is targeting an August 6, 2021 release date. What are your thoughts on David Dastmalchian playing Polka-Dot Man in the film? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!
