Earlier this month, Marvel Studios finally announced the cast of its upcoming film, The Eternals. Angelina Jolie is headlining it as Thena, one of the most powerful members of the Eternals. While the movie is expected to begin production later this year, Jolie is already speaking highly of director Chloe Zhao.
“I think Chloe is going to make a special Marvel film,” said Jolie during an interview with People Magazine. “With all the love and respect for the others and what makes them work, we hope to add something new.”
Jolie also offered up a sample of her training regimen she is using to prepare herself for her first superheroine role.
“Everything from swords to ballet,” noted Jolie. “She’s a warror. I’m going to have to work very hard to give the Marvel Cinematic Universe the Thena they deserve.”

Additionally, Jolie said that her children are “just happy I will be strong and having fun.”
Within the Marvel Universe, Thena has a long list of powers that includes enhanced speed, strength, and healing abilities, in addition to telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, and even matter transmutation. Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr.’s 2006 Eternals miniseries also established Thena’s husband and son, both of whom are human.
Richard Madden is also starring in the film as Ikaris, with Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, and Don Lee as Gilgamesh. Marvel’s The Eternals will hit theaters on November 6, 2020.
