Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott has joined the cat of the upcoming HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials. Scott will play the character Colonel John Parry, also known as Jopari, a renowned scholar and shaman. The official announcement of his casting comes with a behind-the-scenes photo of Scott together with Lin Manuel Miranda, who plays Lee Scoresby in the forthcoming series.

His Dark Materials cast also includes Dafne Keen (Logan), James McAvoy (Dark Phoenix), as well as Ruth Wilson (Luther) and Lin Manuel-Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns). In a parallel universe where all humans have animal companions called dæmons, the young Lyra, a girl living a sheltered life among the academics at Jordan College, Oxford, discovers a dangerous secret.
Part of Philip Pullman’s novel series was transported to the big screen in The Golden Compass. The 2007 movie starred Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, and Eva Green. Chris Weitz’s movie, though, covered just Pullman’s first novel, also called Northern Lights.
