Lately, Brandon Routh has mostly been using his Instagram account to share behind-the-scenes photos from the Crisis on Infinite Earths set. Given the amount of hype surrounding his upcoming appearance as the Kingdom Come version of Superman in the new crossover, it’s been easy to forget that he’s also playing Ray Palmer/Atom, the character he popularized on Legends of Tomorrow. Routh will continue to play Ray for a few episodes of Legends’ impending fifth season before departing the Arrowverse entirely. Now, on his last day of filming, the actor sent out a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who made his time on the show so rewarding.
Routh said goodbye to his Legends of Tomorrow family with a slideshow on Instagram. It looks like the cast and crew baked him a cake to celebrate his five-year tenure on the series. They also gifted him with the Ray puppet that showed up in the “Legends of To-Meow-Meow” episode from last year. You can read what Routh had to say below.

Routh won’t be the only cast member leaving Legends of Tomorrow next year. His wife, Courtney Ford, is also on her way out as Nora Dahrk. In a case of art imitating life, their characters developed a romantic relationship on the show as well. Their departures were announced by the series’ producers back in August.
The first episode of Legends of Tomorrow’s fifth season will also serve as the final installment of Crisis on Infinite Earths. That episode will air on January 14 on The CW.
