Ludwig Dieter Is Back in First Look at Army of the Dead Prequel

After much anticipation, director Zack Snyder has finally returned to the zombie genre with Army of the Dead. The movie debuted in May and it was Snyder’s first original story since Sucker Punch. Netflix believed so much in the potential of Snyder’s idea that it greenlit a franchise expansion well before the film even hit the streaming platform. The first installment in this freshly created franchise is Army of Thieves, a prequel that will expand the story of the most insane heist ever attempted. The project will involve Matthias Schweighöfer, who will return as Ludwig Dieter in addition to directing the movie. The rest of the cast includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, Jonathan Cohen and Noémie Nakai.

Now, Netflix has dropped the first look at Army of Thieves. You can check out the photos in the gallery below.

Once again, Shay Hatten will pen the script. Per the official description, “In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.” It’s not clear yet if any zombies are involved.

Netflix has yet to announce the official release date for Army of Thieves, but it will debut somewhere in fall 2021.
